Rux Energy has been selected as a recipient of Round 2 of the Global Science and Technology Diplomacy Fund (GSTDF) – part of a $6.2M Australian Government initiative supporting international collaboration in Asia in critical technologies.

This program backs nine high-impact projects across areas including AI, advanced manufacturing, quantum and hydrogen, helping Australian innovators partner with global leaders to accelerate commercialisation and real-world impact. and is supported by the Australian Academy of Science and Australian Academy of Technological Sciences and Engineering .

This Project addresses the storage and transport cost of hydrogen, a key barrier to its uptake and Australia’s ambition to become a renewable energy export superpower. It aims to build sovereign, AI-optimised advanced materials manufacturing-capability for hydrogen storage materials and resolves energy-export bottlenecks using data-driven planning, delivering green hydrogen exports cost competitively versus fossil fuels from Australia to Singapore.

Led by Rux Energy in collaboration with Prof. Alessandro Romagnoli Cluster Director, Multi-Energy Systems and Grids, NTU Energy Research Institute (ERI@N), at Nanyang Technological University, leveraging expertise in energy systems modelling and hydrogen infrastructure integration across Southeast Asia.

The Project advances the Advanced Manufacturing theme by optimising Rux’s MOF materials design and green manufacturing processes improving cost-competitiveness, enabling sustainable giga-scale production in Australia, and strengthening sovereign supply chain resilience. It also supports the Hydrogen Production sub-theme by targeting scalable storage solutions that overcome limitations in bulk storage and transport, essential for delivering cost-competitive hydrogen to decarbonise energy, transport, and industry.

The project is a significant opportunity to scale Australian technology with global partners that contribute to strengthening Australia’s position at the forefront of clean energy innovation.
