Rux Energy is part of a consortium of companies selected by the Australian Commonwealth Department of Climate Change, Energy, the Environment and Water as one of the Australia-UK Renewable Hydrogen Innovation Partnership Program lead projects in partnership with our Innovate UK funded sister project led by Matt Candy and his team at Steamology in partnership with Freeport East, Chartwell Marine Ltd, National Composites Centre, Offshore Renewable Energy Catapult, DUODRIVE LIMITED – Project HyZEM (Hydrogen for Zero Emissions Maritime).

Project HyZEM represents a major bridge between next generation hydrogen storage systems and next generation high-torque hydrogen power systems with our focus on workboats like tugs and crew transfer vessels (CTVs). Tugs and CTVs are little boats with enormous engines, hungry for enormous amounts of fuel, so solving efficiency, safety and cost of hydrogen for these vessels is going to have a deep decarbonisation impact.

HyZEM also represents a major bridge between Australia and the UK, two small but wave-making countries that absolutely punch above our weight on breakthrough technologies, particularly in decarbonisation and maritime. Growing the bilateral linkage between Australia and the UK is a key strategic priority for Rux Energy. The company’s focus is on building deep, long-term, trusted partnerships to collaborate to build solutions to mission critical challenges shared by both seafaring nations.  The project will also demonstrate that collaboration is the fastest path to zero carbon.
